This stunning composite image of the Western Hemisphere combines data from multiple satellite missions. Key components include the land surface layer (observations by MODIS on the Terra satellite), the sea ice layer (Terra MODIS), the ocean layer (Terra MODIS), the cloud layer (Terra MODIS), city lights (observations by the Defense Meteorological Satellite), and the topography layer (based on radar data from the Space Shuttle Endeavour). These observations were taken through a range of dates from 1994 to 2004.
