L1527 Protostar

The protostar within the dark cloud L1527, as observed by NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam), resides within a cloud of material that fuels its growth. Ejections from the star have carved out cavities both above and below it, visible as orange and blue boundaries in this infrared view. The upper central region exhibits bubble like shapes resulting from sporadic stellar ejections. Additionally, Webb detects filaments composed of molecular hydrogen, which has been shocked by previous stellar outbursts. Notably, the edges of the cavities at the upper left and lower right appear straight, while those at the upper right and lower left exhibit curved boundaries. The blue hue in the lower right region indicates less dust between it and Webb compared to the orange regions above it.
