Description
Image Details
The Cassini spacecraft captured one of its last looks at Saturn and its main rings from a distance. When Cassini arrived at Saturn in 2004, the planet's northern hemisphere was in darkness, just emerging from winter. This image taken on October 28th 2016 captures the entire north pole bathed in continuous summer sunlight. It looks toward the sunlit side of the rings from about 25 degrees above the ring-plane, acquired at a distance of approximately 870,000 miles from Saturn. The resolution allows scientists to study details down to 50 miles wide.
